Lea holds a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from The University of Texas at Austin, and completed her Masters of Science in Counseling at Southern Methodist University. Although a native Texan, Lea has long claimed the west coast as the truest home for her soul. A long time dream, Lea returned to Southern California in 2022 after many years in Texas. Lea feels passionately about supporting queer and marginalized communities living in Texas and *California, and is proud to do so along her best friend and business partner, Micaela Krusemark, whom maintains a home in Dallas.
In her personal life, Lea enjoys listening to music on her vintage sound system, dabbling with watercolor, and eating really bomb pizza. In counseling, Lea desires for her clients to feel fully empowered and fully immersed within their own unique process of self-discovery and growth.
It can be scary and intimidating to consider counseling. With this in mind, Lea strives to create a warm, non-judgmental, and safe space where you, your story, and your journey are honored.
Currently, much of Lea’s work includes helping LGBTQIA+ folks find healing from various religious frameworks which have unfortunately weaponized theology as a form of spiritual abuse. While Lea is not religious, she supports clients of all faiths and is firmly grounded within a belief that spirituality and existentialism in many forms offer a meaningful form of support and healing.
In addition to her work with the queer community, Lea very much enjoys helping folks “find their voice” in the workplace, strengthen self advocacy, and/or gain greater insight about personal fulfillment within career.
Lea deeply values cultural diversity and respect for the unique lens that each individual possesses, and through which - experiences their environment. Lea believes it is of the utmost importance to provide a trauma-informed perspective for all marginalized populations, including BIPOC. As such, she prides herself on being an LGBTQIA+ affirming therapist and advocate whom places great emphasis upon awareness of multiculturalism. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, Lea feels as if she can offer an intimate form of empathy to her clients.
Lea’s is honored to have known and worked with many individuals within the LGBTQIA+ community.
While walking alongside her clients, Lea strives to help individuals identify and gain insight related to overt and covert messages within clients’ families of origin, untangle and redirect maladaptive relational patterns, and to embrace inner empowerment in an effort to promote healing and bolster self worth.
Lea believes that intrapesonal awareness including but not limited to- identification of inner feelings, thoughts, and experiences is a crucial component of “the work” that is necessary for clients to liberate themselves from deep inner wounds.
As a positive consequence of intrapersonal growth, many of Lea’s clients report that interpersonal awareness, authentic self expression of needs, and boundary setting arise from within their inner resources.
In previous clinical settings, Lea has worked with children and families via play therapy and activity therapy. Specifically, Lea holds a special place in her heart for assisting those who struggle with diagnoses that impact learning and attention. Previously, she sought specialized training to enrich her understanding of ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia and other similar diagnoses. Lea continues to be mindful of how early experiences within the context of education can inform one’s self-worth.
Although she does not see minors currently, Lea utilizes her education regarding the importance of a family systems perspective and the powerful non-verbal form of healing that play offers. For adults, Lea often integrates activity therapy in an effort to facilitate awareness of old wounds from childhood that may have been hidden deep within. Lea believes that play and activity therapy are a forms of evidenced based magic that influence truly holistic growth.
Both forms of aforementioned therapy can serve as distinct and meaningful vehicles for insight and healing.
